Sometimes you read or hear something to which no amount of grandstanding or slang-slinging can do justice, something that absolutely and with no mercy kicks yr emotional equilibrium to the curb, bereft of breath and words. You are following along, doing yr laundry, perhaps, until suddenly the narrative twists, the story being told is yr own and you are left standing still in the middle of yr bedroom, holding a matchless sock and sobbing.
Catalina Puente's WNYC Radio Rookies segment is that kind of thing. Please, whoever you are--listen to it. It might not be about what you think it's going to be about. It will be worth the 12 minutes and 43 seconds, I promise.
Pop culture treasure, high culture trash.

I would have to say this is just like a story I heard before from a girl named, Lizzie.
I tried to get it to work, but RealPlayer was being gay, and I hate reading. I'll give it another shot tomorrow.
I'll just assume that by "gay" you meant "really really awesome and deserving of civil rights."
I'm sorry you couldn't hear the clip, but glad you didn't read the transcript; I think it's more powerful coming in through the ears than the eyes. I hope you keep trying.
praps i'm misusing this forum --and if so, lizzie, pls delete this comment asap, with my apologies-- but jamison, i must say that i'm offended by yr choice of words.
and it's more than that, because i like reading yr blog, and i think you have good things to say, but i'm going to have a hard time getting to the things themselves if you slur your words.
realplayer was being gay; that's what i hate reading. c'mon, dude. you're better than that.
sorry y'all. a.) i'm 19, b.) from the midwest. it's just something we say. honestly, it never even crossed my mind. i know it's no excuse, but we just tend to forget that anyone's going to get their feelings hurt around here around here, because there just aren't that many gay people. full apologies to everyone, and feel free to delete/keep up for posterity/do whatever you want with these comments. i will do my utmost to make sure i watch my mouth, and further, just stop saying things like that. i understand it's unacceptable, and please believe i meant no disrespect to anyone.
